5 Movies I Relate to & Why

JennyNYC tagged me with this meme. This one was harder than I realized. I had to sit on it and think about it for several days. But I've finally got my list.

1. Heavenly Creatures
JennYNYC says "Heavenly Creatures. I identified so much with this movie in which two young lesbian lovers kill one of their parents in order to be together. My young girlfriend and I considered the same thing." Ditto to that.

2. Eternal Sunshine in a Spotless Mind
When I first saw this movie, I was somewhat paranoid that they'd masked my relationship with C by making her character a man. I was even wearing an orange sweater-jacket, much like Kate Winslet's the first time I went to see it. I think most of what I relate to is the final feeling of unconditional love. Even knowing each other's quirks and the torture we put each other through at times, we would still choose each other - over and over again. And I have watched this movie - over and over again. ;-)

3. Liquid Sky
The main character dresses in very eccentric, creative outfits. In one scene in the movie, she is talking with a friend who is wearing jeans and a t-shirt and they talk about the fact that they are each wearing a costume of sorts. I love that scene and I also love to dress in costumes!

4. But I'm a Cheerleader
Like the main character in this movie, I was a Pom Pom girl in my high school when I first realized that I like girls. And I was as enthusiastic as the main character of this movie is about heading out on my own in order to lead my own life.

5. Thirteen
I bought this movie because I related to it so well, but now I can't think of exactly what all it's about. But I remember issues between parents and a teenage girl and the main character (a thirteen year-old girl) undergoing a sudden change that surprised her mother. If you've been reading "Opening Pandora's Box" about my thirteenth year and you've seen this movie, the connection may be more obvious to you than I even recall myself.

I tag - anyone who wants to do this one. Let me know if you do it and I'll link you at the end of this post. ;-)

Comments:
LOL. I would apologize, but your impatience charms me.

I definitely will check out Liquid Sky! I relate to Thirteen and But I'm a Cheerleader too, both great movies. Have you seen Lost and Delirious, a boarding school lesbian movie? I liked that one too even if it was cheesy :)

I definitely related to Thirteen. And Eternal Sunshine absolutely gives me chills. About two months ago, the only film that almost completely mirrored my life was Requiem for a Dream. Sad but true...glad that's changed. I'll have to check out Liquid Sky and But I'm A Cheerleader...and it's been years since I saw Heavenly Creatures, so I'll plan a refresher viewing some evening.

i've only seen #2. i'll take your word that the others are good and maybe check some of them out.

Thirteen was the BEST movie that came out that year! BTW, it was about the girl growing up and getting seduced into a less-than-wholesome (though, realistically, very common) lifestyle.
