When I Was 18...
C asked one of her co-workers to watch our cats while we're out of town this weekend. May I add - he is 18 years old.
We had a bad experience with a cat sitter once - she had a big party in our apartment and somehow managed to get strange stains in some of the clothes hanging in our closet. Since then, we've primarily opted to leave the cats unattended with ample food. But our 22 year-old cat now requires fluids given through a needle in her neck every day and four days is too long for her to go without.
Now... when I was 18...
-I stopped showing up for work one day because I no longer felt like going.
-I engaged in illegal activities, that shall go unidentified.
-I had a kick-ass party in my parents' house where I walked in on an accquaintance having sex with her boyfriend in my bed (I mean, EW! Why couldn't she have used my parents' or my sister's bed?) And the next morning, the bedroom floor and family room floor was covered in sleeping bodies.
-I stole from my parents and my employers (Oops, wait, I still do that). ;-)
I'm just saying... If this dude is anything like what I was like at 18, I'm not sure having him in my house while I'm gone will be reassuring, you know?
And what about all the booze? On the one hand, I'd like to tell him which bottles of wine are off-limits, but that implies that the rest of our booze is "on-limits." I could get arrested for corrupting a minor! Though honestly, I have issues with the age requirements for the consumption of alcohol, I still wouldn't risk imprisonment to defend an 18-year-olds' right to drink.
At 18, my friends were all as irresponsible as I was. Tell me there are some responsible 18-year-olds out there and that I don't need to worry. Please?

Comments:
Well, he turned out to be a disaster. He only showed up half of the time he said he would and only did about a quarter of the things we'd asked him to. Fortunately, my sister-in-law lives above our house and was keeping an eye on him. She asked him not to bother coming back. She could manage the level of work he was getting done on her own. We'd wanted someone to spend the night in our apartment with the animals, which he'd agreed to, but he didn't spend one night there. But we're home now and the animals are all still alive, so I won't complain too much.
