Theme Song Meme

I'm not sure if I saw this meme somewhere else or if I just dreamt it, but listening to music the other day, I got inspired to do this.

I've chosen some of my favorite blogs and picked theme songs for them. If you're not on this list, it's not that you're not one of my favorites; it means I had too hard of a time picking a theme song for you and gave up. Sorry. The order of the list is not order of preference, but just how you fall into my blogroll in my sidebar. If you're on this list, consider yourself tagged. ;-) You should then pick a song for my blog as well as a few of your favorite blogs.

Blogger: JennyNYC
Theme song: Monogamy Shbedogamy by Baba Yaga
This song would fit most appropriately with the blog JennyNYC sadly abandoned that was called Roly Poly Poly Girl.

Blogger: Ben
Theme song: She's the One by Beta Band
Ben's Starting Again blog strikes me as largely a tribute to the woman he's in love with, so although some of the lyrics don't fit, the refrain seems quite appropriate.

Blogger: Bethanie
Theme song: The Other Side of the World by Chaka Khan
I was feeling rather melancholy when I travelled around in Egypt, Europe and Japan during college. This song was one of my favorites to listen to as I travelled about alone. Bethanie's blog sometimes reminds me of that time in my life - in her international travel (though to Thailand, where I've never been), her thoughts on solitude, and her occasional melancholy.

Blogger: Exile
Theme song: Disseminated by Soul Coughing
It's not the lyrics to this song that make me think of Exile. At least I don't think. It's the fun, upbeat, playful melody of the song that reminds me of Exile.

Blogger: Debra
Theme song: Fuck and Run by Liz Phair
Although this isn't the theme of her blog, I have known Debra since we were both going through numerous boy (well, and for me, girl and boy) dramas. This song seems appropriate in reference to those times.

Blogger: FRA
Theme song: Violet by Hole
I was trying to think of song by a sexy, angry woman. Well, Courtney Love isn't very sexy, but this song is.

Blogger: Cori
Theme song: A Gust of Imponderable Charm by Bambouche of the Vanguard Squad
Cori's writing and her taste in music are so brilliant, they intimidate me. So instead of picking a song for her blog, I picked a song that's on her blog.

Blogger: Gulnaz
Theme song: Rain by The Cult
Her posts about monsoons are erotic and enticing, just like the rain in this song.

Blogger: Indigo
Theme song: Central Reservation by Beth Orton
Her line "I can still smell you on my fingers and taste you on my breath" reminds me of the sensuality of Indigo's poetry.

Blogger: Jax
Theme song: anything by Diamanda Galas
First of all, I envision the main character of Jax's story about a vampire like Diamanda and her songs are haunting and dark, just like Jax's writing.

Blogger: Lorena
Theme song: ???
If anyone ever put Pablo Neruda's poetry to music, that's the song I'd pick. Her blog is romantic and charming and thoughtful, just like Neruda's poetry.

Blogger: Mari
Theme song: Stockholm Syndrome by Yo La Tengo
First off, this is one of my favorite songs off of the mixed cd Mari copied for me (among a few other songs showing up in this post). This song also reminds me of how great my summer has been, spending some of it with Mari and also of the conversations we've had while painting in her studio.

Blogger: Mitzzee
Theme song: I Just Wanna Get Along by the Breeders
Her recent, very cool posts on Catholics verses Protestants and gay rights in Canada seem to have a common message of a desire for peace. To steal a quote from her blog, "Why can't we all just get along?"

Blogger: Neelsen
Theme song: I'll Come Running (to tie your shoe) by Brian Eno
Okay, so most of the lyrics don't fit. But I was thinking Neel might need help tying his shoes while his back is recovering. :-)

Blogger: Brandon
Theme song: ???
I was trying to think of songs that tell stories, because Brandon is such an amazing story-teller, but all I could think of was Bury My Heart At Wounded Knee by Buffy Sainte-Marie. But it was too political. Then I tried to think of a funny-story song, since Brandon's stories so often make me laugh. But Alice's Restaurant by Arlo Guthrie didn't seem to fit right either. I guess Brandon's writing is an enigma to theme songs.

Blogger: Sssssss Teeee
Theme song: anything by Madonna
Because She's Her Girl!

Blogger: Stella
Theme song: ???
I wanted to think of a cool song about New York City, but the only song I could think of was The Boy from New York City by Manhattan Transfer, which just isn't quite what I had in mind. Any suggestions?

Blogger: Tesco
Theme song: Pornography by the Cure
I have to admit, I don't recall having heard this song, despite years of adoringly listening to the Cure, but when I googled key words for tesco "punk" and "porn," this is the song that came up. ;-) Just a coincidence that he recently wrote a fascinating post about how Robert Smith of the Cure used to be one of Siouxsie's Banshees.

Blogger: Transience
Theme song: Pretty Good Year by Tori Amos
I was thinking of Tori Amos because her music is pretty and her song lyrics are creative - both elements of Transience's blog. And then I came across this song with a bike in the lyrics... ;-)

So again, if you are listed above, you've been tagged.

What theme songs would you suggest for my blog?

Comments:
Cool idea! Me likey! I'll do this for sure...either on my lunch or tonight.........nice choice for me, I like that tune.

you rock sista! ;)

I dig this idea as well. I will have to let it roll around for a few days to come up with some appropriate suggestions. Cool song for me!
wohoo

that is so awsome that you picked that song for me.

not only did i tottally like that song (and haven't heard it in years) but in my highschool video production class i acctually made a music video for it.

i'd have to say tune and lyrics match me pretty well.

so i have to find a song for you? do i post it on my blog or back here in the comments?

what a great idea! enticing and erotic! hmmm :))) am so pleased, thank you!! ;)
though havent heard the song, like the lyrics very much, they fit! :)

will post the song for you later, want to give it more thought. okie

How about for you:
These boots are made for walking!

cool meme!! thanks for including me although you didn't pick a song for me! i will definitely do this one and then select the song for you. thanks

A song for your blog? Private Dancer by Tina Turner. (don't ask why, I just love Tina. She's got a strong voice and so do you! Plus, you seem to have an open and private side too on this blog... ;)

Me blog? 'NYC' by Interpol or a smoky Ella Fitzgerald tune ... (just songs i happen to like and reminds me of the city)!! Thanks!

Hey, thanks for thinking of me and Madonna. There's a future there, you know! I guess I would say for your blog that I'd have to pick something by L7. It's your profile pick that makes me think of the California punk girl style of L7. Cool idea!

Spitting in a Wishing Well

Mitzzee & Bethanie- I'm glad you enjoyed my meme. I feel bad for tagging people, though, because it was kind of a headache coming up with all of those songs. So I'm super glad you were at least entertained by my efforts.

Indigo - I have the cd, but not an mp3 version. Sorry.

Exile - That is such a wild coincidence. I am beginning to wonder at my powers of mental telepathy. ;-) As for my song, you can either post it here or on your blog. Whatever inspires you.

Gulnaz - Yeah, that song used to be one of my favorites years and years ago. I first heard that song with someone I was totally crushed out on and ever since the song has been particularly charged for me.

JennyNYC - Oh yes! Any Nancy Sinatra would be awesome. Have you heard, "bang, bang?" That's another of my favorites by her.

Mari - I don't know all of those songs. Are they on the cd's you made me or shall I add them to my list? ;-) Yes, thinking of a single song for a blog was quite an impossible task, but I did my best.

Debra - I can't believe you haven't heard that song. You must check it out. That entire album is awesome - Exile in Guyville by Liz Phair.

Lorena - A good friend of mine who was too shy to post a comment suggested Damien Rice for your blog. Unfortunately, I've never heard of him, so I'll have to check him out and let you know if I agree with that suggestion.

Stella - I don't know NYC by Interpol, I'll have to check it out. I can't think of an appropiate Ella fitzgerald song. But you got me thinking of a whole genre I didn't think of. What about a little Nina Simone? "I want a little sugar in my bowl" or "Just Say I Love Him."

Ssssss Teeeee - Yeah, L7. I could see that. Thanks! And you and Madonna would make an awesome match! ;-)

Tesco - I'm sorry I didn't pick Disseminated for you. I was really stuck on incorporating your love of porn into the song somehow, as I am highly amused by it. ;-)

sk8rn- i know the perfect song, but i have it on mp3 and i have no idea who sings it. e-mail me and i'll send it to you.

you know i'm hooked on his lastest cd. he has great music. i'll wait patiently to see if you agree. tell your friend i said thanks :)

WOO!! lmao I love Violet!! and I'm sexy and angry? Hell I would have just been happy with angry, I'm gonna sooo tackle this, babe. Thanks for tagging me, LOVE MEMES THAT MAKE ME THINK!

exile - Done. Thanks!

Lorena - I'm glad you like his music, so I take it that was a compliment. I'll definitely check it out.

FRA - Of course you're sexy and angry. ;-) I can't believe that you actually questionned that.

'that's the way love goes by janet jackson has been stuck in my head since i read your meme, so this has to be your song. :)
you share the sweet sexiness with it. maybe it came to me coz of your love for C and dancing.
i really like the song and i hope you do too.

ok ok I did a meme for you....and don't laugh at my pick for your blog, I was trying to be fun and cute. ;)

Gulnaz - I like the sound of that song by Janet Jackson. I'll have to listen to the lyrics again (or google them). But I like that it's danceable. And you made my day saying I match the sexiness of that song!

Mitzzee - How exciting that someone actually did my meme! I'll check it out now. Cool.

My my my! Hi Darlin! Thanks too! There's this band called "the Struts" and I think their song "I Wanna be your Driver" at http://hoecake.xbuild.com/
is peeeerrrrrfffeeecctt for you!

Hi Cori - What a delight to get a comment from you on this blog. It's been quite awhile since my first days of blogging, emailing you asking you for advice every few days. :-) Thanks again for all that. And as usual, I am way impressed with your music savvy. And what a fun song you picked for me! Thanks! Hope you're well.

now having heard the song (thanks), I think I'm irked. What the hell's up with the chipmunks as back-up? :-p

Ben - LOL. Yes, that ending part with the chipmunks is my least favorite part of the song.
