In the City

After a busy, albeit short, day at work today, I met up with Mari at her studio to paint. After all of the flack I got from my family over my interpretation of the last painting I did, it's a wonder I ever picked up a paint brush again.

I used that ruffled, frustrated energy to create a piece about sibling relationships, which unfortunately hasn't turned out great, so it's unlikely you'll get to see it. Then I did another terrible free-flow abstract piece that I have painted over every time I've been to Mari's studio since then. And now finally, I'm doing a piece I'm having fun with. Let me explain...

Mari is moving studios. She seems more okay about this news than I am. I love the neighborhood she's in now. Almost everytime I'm there, either I witness some sort of drama, like a prostitute getting out of a car parked in an alley and wiping... off her mouth. Or I hear from Mari about a recent drama - like the dance-off between a butch lesbian and a drag queen. Life is never boring on Polk Street.

So... to commemorate the good times I've had there, I am painting the view from her studio window.

Now, if you read Mari's blog, don't worry, I will leave out the bleeding man from the scene.

So... while we're hanging out this afternoon, Mari asks, "Are you doing anything tonight?"

I say, "No, why?"

She says, "Well, my sister is having a few people over to watch Sex in the City tonight."

I get a huge grin on my face and wait. No response.

"So, I take it you haven't read my blog in the last day or two, huh?" I ask.

"No, why?"

So... Mari has leant me the boxed set of the first season of Sex in the City. So for those of you whom I offended by being so out of the loop on the greatness that is this show, I will give it a shot.

I generally only watch tv on nights before I work a night shift. C goes to bed by 11pm on those nights, but I try to stay up until 3am in order to sleep the day before a night shift. I worked days this past month, which was hell. [Remind me not to do that again.] So I'd forgotten what time I have dedicated to movies and tv in the past - that 11pm to 3am time zone. :-) So, I'll have my sex in the city and watch it on tv, too.

Comments:
Will you be able to post your painting? I would love to see it. I can appreciate the beauty of art. Sex in the City, everybody and their mother watched that show but me. I would come across it on the remote if I was home hitting the buttons if nothing else was on. I had a chance to watch a few shows, but never got hooked on it. I never really knew what was going on, but my friends...well it was always on their tv set. From what I've seen it's a great show. Enjoy! And let your painting be a masterpiece.

LOL! that's just great. tell us how it goes on your date with the four femmes.

Those women have had more sex than the rest of NY combined. But the show is hilarious at times - especially Samatha, the queen bitch and über woman. Who's your fav?

hehehe
I'm not sure I'd jump right to "greatness" when describing the show. :-D
I'll be interested to get your take on it (they often seem, to me, like every woman we women should aspire not to be). Have fun!

funny :) i could picture you smiling when Mari (yay mari) mentioned sex in the city..hehe!
hope you like it.
"So, I'll have my sex in the city and watch it on tv, too."
lucky you :)

well that's kewl...at least now you'll be able to form your own personal opinion.....i think you'll find it allright, funny, yet somewhat unrealistic, unless of course you live in Manhattan

So, I'll have my sex in the city and watch it on tv, too.

LOL

I love being up from 11:00pm to 3am, absolutely don't know how to give it up. It's so just for meeee.
