Painturbation
You get two bangs for one buck as I practically wrote a whole new post in the comments section of the last one just now.
So, I am working tomorrow night and thus need to try to stay up late tonight. I had to cancel Netflix because C quit her job and we are suddenly poor. So I'm trying to be resourceful and think of other things to occupy my time. Reading and commenting on blogs will obviously keep me highly entertained for hours, but in fear of that computer glazed look turning into slumber, I needed a more physically active alternative.
I thought, "Maybe I should paint."
My sister bought me a mini set of paints and a table-top easel for Christmas last year that I haven't broken out yet. And C had bought me a nice big piece of canvas that has been collecting dust under our bed.
Then suddenly, I remembered my conversation with Mari at her studio on Tuesday.
ME: Oh! I bought a paint spatula and I should have brought it with me today.
Mari [long pause then shooting me a look]: You mean you paint somewhere else?
I wish I could convey her tone better in this post. The best way to describe it was that it suggested I was cheating on her by painting somewhere other than at her studio.
First of all, I *don't* paint anywhere but at her studio. But it was kind of nice that she reacted that way (though she was clearly being playful with her comment). I sometimes worry I'm a bother for her. Here I am, showing up at her door, using her paint, dirtying her paint brushes, and distracting her from her work with random conversation. I get great pleasure out of her company, inspiration from her creativity, and a joy out of painting. And what does she get in return?
Well, now at least I know - a faithful painting partner. ;-) Though if I paint by myself tonight, won't that be kind of like masturbation?
