skateboarding saturday

Usually, I ride my skateboard home from work. I can't do any fancy tricks on my board (yet). I'm primarily a commuting skateboarder. But lately, every time I take my skateboard to work, someone offers to drive me home. It's like Murphy's Law: if I don't have it with me, I have to wait endless minutes for a bus to arrive.

But on Saturday, I ran into MC at the bus stop where I was waiting to take a bus up a very very large San Francisco hill to work. I had my skateboard in hand. And MC asked if she could try it out. She'd never been on a skateboard before. It was *so* much fun. A was on one side, holding one of her hands. I was on the other side, holding her other hand while we pulled and she pushed herself along.

I had forgotten how much more fun it is to be playing around on a skateboard with friends. I have a co-worker who's got a longboard. We keep talking about hitting the panhandle (part of Golden Gate Park) together. Though she'll fly past me on that long board, it would still be fun. But we haven't done it yet.

The next morning, despite having my board with me, no one had a car to drive me home. So I hit the road. I was happily rolling down the slopes of the Haight at 8am, despite having been awake since about noon the day before. (Sometimes I do worry - riding while sleep deprived kind of feels as naughty and reckless as driving while intoxicated). And even more perfect... just when I would have had to push my lazy ass uphill (I was not only sleep deprived, but my feet were killing me from standing on them for the past 12 hours), a bus came along - going my way. What a lovely skateboarding saturday. Though it'll be even more perfect when my co-worker and I get our acts together and actually cruise the concrete on a day off. But for a work day, this was pretty darn close to second-best.
