Why Would You Want to Model?
A friend asked me this question via email when she saw my photos on this blog. I can't answer for everyone. However, I had several reasons for wanting to do this work.
The first reason seems shallow and stupid on the one hand and yet I know of other models who have had similar motives. So I am not unique in feeling this way. I am not getting any younger. At 33, I have watched my body mature and transform from young adult into woman. And I know it will continue to change as I grow wiser ;-) (euphemism intentional). And I want to capture my body as it is now in film so as to preserve it in my memory. To appreciate it more for its beauty rather than to dwell on the pieces of it that have begun to cause me angst. Perhaps to help me see the beauty of my aging body more clearly. (Not that 33 is old, but my body certainly isn't what it was at 18). And who better to find beauty in physical form than an artist?

Secondly, I love art. I love to create art. I love to spend time enjoying art. I love to discuss art with fellow artists. I love feeling a sense of connection and community with other artists. And why not extend this to participating in another's creation of art?
And finally, thirdly, I am a bit of an exhibitionist. After months of negotiations with C, and after feeling she understood my need for polyamory and was willing to consider it, I agreed to be monogamous under the level of freedoms with which she was comfortable (ie dancing with whomever I want - and now I've discovered posing nude for photos is another activity she is comfortable with). So although I was in no way interested in the photo session turning into sex, I won't deny there was a level of sexual energy present in the experience. Even if the sexuality was limited to the excitement of taking a risk, feeling vulnerable and intimate with a stranger, and performing a sort of dance between photographer and model.
Why might you want to model?

Why would I want to model?
To show off the beauty and sexuality of a full-figured woman.
Exhibitionism, of course :-)
The joy of art
The thrill of the unknown
By the way, the colors in this picture are so beautiful! Just love it!

brilliant, as always. And touching.
Meanwhile, as a scrawny pale boy, the only reason for me to pose nude is 'cause I hate the photographer.
:-D

Seriously, I think I do it for the same reasons you do. I love being naked, I love knowing my body, I love to make collaborative art and I'm a show-off. I know what you're saying, lady.
