Basketball Ballad

C and I were out walking C-dog late tonight. We took her to the park and stood next to the basketball courts as we played fetch.

I had never consciously realized before how relaxing I find the rhythmic bouncing of the basketball in the courts before.

\\bpin// \\bpin// \\bpin// as the ball hits the pavement

>>>ching<<< as the ball hits the chain-linked fence

Although I have never been much of a spectator sport kind of gal, there is something both soothing and seductive in those sounds.

Comments:
I take the kids up to the gym to play basketball sometimes and also love the sounds. I am the referee, yelling encouraging and protective comments and solving disputes!

Ooooh. Kids. Yeah. Uh. In that case, scratch the "seductive" part of that post. Though that does sound fun - refereeing and all. Late at night when I'm at the basketball courts, however, it is always groups of adults playing.

I miss my backyard in Ohio where we had a basketball hoop. It was always so fun to play with David after school. Here in the city there are games of basketball going on all over the place, but not ones that I can join in. I often look longingly at them. One of my teenage male patients lives and breathes the basketball scene in the city. It's great fun to hear about.
