Sheep Pedicures

I got a voice mail message from MC yesterday.

MC: Hi ME. I was wondering... after you're done with your finals and everything... if you'd be able to help me out. The sheep's hooves have gotten really long and you're the only experienced sheep hoove trimmer I know.

I almost fell onto the floor laughing. What an odd accomplishment is that? And am I truly experienced? I guess spending a summer clipping a total of 150 sheep's hooves (that's 150 sheep times four limbs for a grand total of 600 hooves) just might constitute me as knowing a thing or two. But considering how urban my life is now (and MC's for that matter), it seems such an absurd request.

I guess I should explain. MC works in environmental education settings for urban kids and her co-workers include sheep, as well as chickens. And I worked on a sheep farm as part of an internship for college (my school wanted us to get a broad range of experiences).

Stories of Clipping Sheep Hooves

How to Clip Sheep Hooves

Comments:
When I was in Jewish High School (a Sunday night thing) I chose a sexuality class (of course), and the rabbi taught us about sheep boots. That is, boots that a sheep wears that have a stick on the bottom that goes into the ground. He explained that some people have sheep wear them in order for them not to move away when a person is having sex with them. He didn't instruct us to pursue this but he did explain it. I don't know why or if it is accurate! He also dressed as a woman for a temple Halloween party, wearing a bra with coconuts in it. TMI?

What makes that story a little scary, JennyNYC, is that it's not clear if the rabbi was *recommending* this practice of putting sheep in boots. The thought gives me the willies.
